The next meeting of the Tallahassee Polymer Clay Art Guild will take place on Sunday, June 7 from 1-5 PM. As usual, we will meet at the Southwood Welcome Home Center, just east of Four Oaks Blvd. on Merchant's Row in Southwood Town Center. It's the large storefront just west of Subway.
Heard back from a number of members and this is what will be going on at the meeting this month:
- Pat is bringing her Sarah Shriver DVD to share with the group - we can watch a project or two from the DVD. Sarah is an amazing millefiore artist! I will also bring Ellen's copy of Judy Belcher's Millefiore Story DVD if anyone is interested. We can watch both DVDs on my laptop.
- Pat will give a demo on a technique involving liquid clay.
- Paige missed Ellen's tile bracelet demo, so I will do a brief recap (with Ellen's permission). I don't know if I will have extra templates to hand out, but if not, Ellen may have them for the July meeting or you can make them yourself.
- Also, an overview on textures and buttons in clay.
Bring your basic clay kit and some clay or textures with which to practice or follow along.
See you Sunday!

Polymer Clay News
Guest Teacher Opportunity for Tallahassee
I am talking with polymer clay and basket artist Karen Woods
about coming up to Tallahassee this fall to teach a Screenprinting on
Clay class. The class would be a one-day and would cost between $50-75
which would include lunch, one screen to take home, use of teacher
screens & paint. Students would supply clay.
I can see if she might want to do a 1/2 day class on day 2 (different
technique), if that would make it more worthwhile for people to attend.
Price would change, obviously.
Please let me know if you would be interested in this - there has been
interest expressed from the Atlanta and Orlando guilds. We would need
to put together a small committee to organize and run the class.

The next meeting of the Tallahassee Polymer Clay Art Guild will take place on Sunday, April 5 from 1-5 PM. As usual, we will meet at the Southwood Welcome Home Center , just east of Four Oaks Blvd. on Merchant's Row in Southwood Town Center. It's the large storefront between Sharky's Coffee and Subway. The theme for this meeting is "Spring Fling"!
Paige will be teaching a simple flower cane using a 2-color Skinner Blend or Bullseye cane as the starting point. To follow along with this demo, you will need the following supplies in addition to a Basic Clay Kit .
For flower petals
- 2-4oz. White or very light color clay
- 2-4oz. Color of your choice - it will be blended with the white
- 2 ounces gold (for wrapping and veins, if desired)
- 2-4 ounces translucent (for packing)
For flower centers (as suggested by Lynne Ann Schwarzenberg)
- Use old canes with interesting geometrical designs
- For the following ideas, I suggest 1oz. of each color:
- Simple lace cane with yellow snakes wrapped in brown
- A complementary 2-color spiral
- A skinner blend bullseye with light center and dark on the outside (this can be reduced to make a lace cane)
If time allows, Barbara will be teaching a simple shaded leaf cane using a 2-color Skinner Blend. To follow along with this demo, you will need the following supplies in addition to a Basic Clay Kit.
- 2-4oz. Light color clay
- 2-4oz. Leaft color of your choice - it will be blended with the lighter color, so the two colors should blend well
- 2 ounces gold or black for veining
May Meeting
For the May meeting, we were considering bringing in a local artist/teacher for a Precious Metal Clay project-based class. Unfortunately this will be rescheduled for the Autumn. Jessica will be gone for 8 weeks this Spring attending an Jewelery Intensive course at the Alan Revere School in San Francisco.
If you have ideas for the May meeting demo/mini-class, send them our way!

May MeetingFor the May meeting, we are considering bringing in a local artist/teacher for a Precious Metal Clay project-based class. The class brings together PMC and Polymer Clay to make an attractive, reversible pendant. The cost of the class would be between $25 and $30 would include all the PMC materials and tools you need. You would need to provide your own polymer clay and tools. The class would be taught by Jessica Kimelman, a certified PMC instructor and frequent instructor in PMC at Lemoyne. If you are interested in taking this class, please bring your checkbook to the April meeting and reserve your spot.
See you in a couple weeks!
